new treats this week, takeout day, week nine of keeping people working keeping people fed

Week nine: keeping people working keeping people fed

“Hospitality people solve issues with empathy and kindness, by gathering people together and cooking for them and caring for them. And none of our skills are relevant at the moment; some are even dangerous,” Peter Lawrence (owner, Wythe Hotel, NYC) – Bruce Handy, The New Yorker, May 4.

The government opens up restrictions on businesses this week. We can shop for plants, maybe get our hair cut and go camping. And, maybe, sit in a restaurant. Most of the restos we surveyed are staying with take-out and curbside pick-up for now, 50 per cent capacity just doesn’t work, let alone being able to maintain social distance in the kitchen. But, Smokey Bear will reopen Thursday for sit-down dining (reservations only). They have spent the last few weeks developing new practices and procedures to make sure that everyone is safe and have added additional sanitation procedures. Expect 18 seats only with three people only in the kitchen and serving, masked and gloved. Visit smokeybearyeg.com to make a reso.
