Edmonton’s food community has stepped up for Ukraine. The fundraiser dinner this Sunday, organized by Jimmy Shewchuk, Brad Smoliak and Steve Buzak, sold out within a few hours.
Confetti Sweet’s Cookie for Ukraine has already raised $20,000 for the Canada Ukraine Foundation. “We’re running short of the blue and yellow sprinkles,” says owner Kathy Lescow. “We encourage people to pick up the Ukrainian-themed gift certificate ($17.50) instead.” Pick up at the store in Sherwood Park only, call to order. “I’m Ukrainian and over half of our staff are Ukrainian. We were in the office thinking, we should do something with cookies, maybe we’ll raise $1000,” says Kathy. “We did $1000 in our first hour. It’s gratifying, for me personally, that this little cookie shop can do good for people across the world.”
The Glass Monkey is selling borsht (1 litre, frozen or fresh) to benefit the Come Back Alive organization.
Roasti Coffee has given the Guatamala Finca El Sarral a new label, with proceeds to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Awn Kitchen is donating proceeds from the Friday Doughnut project to the Red Cross Ukraine Appeal, in person only, Fridays in March.
Reinette Café & Patisserie sold sunflower macarons for Unicef Send Help to Ukraine.

Edmonton’s A Cappella Catering and Italian Centre Shop have created a special three-course lunch for International Women’s Week, with $10 of each meal going to Women Building Futures. “Our mission is to support women’s economic security through employment training and support services,” says Carol Moen, president and CEO of Women Building Futures. “The funds from this collaboration will be directed to our pantry, which supports women in our programs and affordable housing units in Edmonton.” Call A Cappella, 780-454-2642 to order by 11am Thursday.
