highway 14 farm stand tour is this saturday
Visit four exceptional farms in one day, noon to 3pm, Saturday, July 4. First stop: Barr Estate Winery for a tasting of local fruit wines, then pop over to South Cooking Lake Greenhouse. It’s their last day of the season and there are some great deals on plants! Pop into the Pierogerie’s brand new farm store and browse the selection of organic pierogi in several delicious flavours. While you are there, meet Heather from Wildlish to taste handcrafted herbal teas and botanical blends made from Alberta plants and herbs. Last stop is Lamberry Ranch—visit with the industrious sheep and pick up some eggs and frozen saskatoons. (The tree fruit isn’t quite there yet.) The u-pick will be open soon for both sour cherries and saskatoons. Don’t forget the bug spray!

DON’YA’s Jorgia Lindquist is racking up the awards. She is Canada’s first ever winner of the JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Award, given by the Junior Chamber International, a global non-profit leadership and development organization for young professionals aged 18 to 40. On June 16, she presented How My Taste of Place Business Took Flight at Air Canada’s Youth Entrepreneur Showcase at the Summit in Edmonton. This homegrown business is making all the right moves. Chefs Nathin Bye, Chef Instructor NAIT (2012 Gold); Winnie Chen, Fu’s Repair Shop (2023 Silver); Scott Downey, The Butternut Tree (2018 Silver); Jason Greene, Braven (2024, 2025 Silver); Blair Lebsack, RGE RD (Silver, 2014); Doreen Prei, Royal Mayfair Golf Club (2024 Gold, 2019 Bronze 2013 and 2016 Silver); Paul Shufelt, Robert Spencer Hospitality (2013 Gold, 2012 Bronze); and Tyson Wright, The Old Red Barn (2025 Gold), will be competing to join the 2015 Canadian Culinary Champion and Edmonton’s Chef of Distinction Ryan O’Flynn (pictured) in Ottawa at the Canadian Culinary Championships in February.
