celebrate the flavours of multiculturalism

Albania-Kosova, Australia, Syria and Cote d’Ivoire are adding to the array of tasty things to eat at Heritage Days, August 4-6 at Hawrelak Park. There are now 71 food pavilions from the original 11 communities in 1976 (Arab, Caribbean, Chile, Philippines, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Scandinavia, Wales). Visit the Aussie pavilion by the pond for kangaroo sliders (kangaroo mince with bush tomato and ground pepper berry relish); roasted lamb in filo (Albania-Kosova); Syrian shawarma and kofta and quench your thirst with guinea sorrel juice (Cote d’Ivoire). Entry is free; tix are $1 each. There are not just delish things to eat; enjoy music, dance and the arts. Keep in mind that your car is probably the worst way to get there— consider riding your bike https://www.heritagefest.ca/copy-of-by-bus-1 or taking transit. And don’t forget to bring a donation for Edmonton’s Food Bank. Menus: https://www.heritagefest.ca

gold medal plates becomes canada’s great kitchen party

Gold Medal Plates raised over $15 million for Olympic athletes while raising the profile of Canadian chefs and fine Canadian food and wine. Now it’s time for something new — Canada’s Great Kitchen Party. Funds raised no longer go to the Olympic Foundation but will fund athletes via B2ten and also provide musical instruments to children and mentorship to young culinarians. We are excited about the chef lineup for Edmonton’s regional competition on October 17: Serge Belair (Shaw Conference); Scott Downey (Butternut Tree); JP Dublado (Seorak); Jordan McEwen (Century Group); Davina Moraiko (RGE Rd); Jesse Morrison-Gauthier (The Common); Lindsay Porter (London Local); Vikram Redgaonkar (Highlands Golf Club); and Ben Staley (Alder Room).
