10th anniversary of the green & gold: helping women in rwanda rebuild their lives
Jeanne Mwiliriza not only survived the Rwandan genocide, she came out of it with a mission; to empower all Rwandan women who are survivors of violence. She founded the Tubahumurize Association which offers vocational training, health education, microcredit loans and employment opportunities.
The Green and Gold Community Garden on the University Farm is one of the global initiatives that supports Tubahumurize. This weekend is their 10th anniversary and their special guest is Jeanne Mwiliriza. On Friday, July 27, at St. Andrew’s United Church, she will be speaking about her work in Rwanda. On Saturday, July 28, head to the Green & Gold to meet her and tour the garden (11am-1pm). Bring cash and your shopping bags too, as the garden is in full summer glory.
