la boule closing august 22

The legions of fans of La Boule Bakery were sad to see this sign on the door. The Old Strathcona bakery, home to exquisite viennoiserie and patisserie, baguettes and boules and probably the best gluten-free pastry in the city, the chocolate mousse gateau, is closing its doors August 22. monolith and twin sails collab bottle release

Here’s what Monolith is saying about their new soon-to-be- released mixed fermentation beer, One Night in Dunham; “This collaboration with our friends from Twin Sails Brewing departs from our usual base wort, opting to include Cara Aroma and Munich malts. After fermenting for 16 months in Spanish red wine barrels, the resulting blend has medium acidity, bright red fruit notes, light wine tannin, and a dry finish.” I’m in, what about you? Join them on Sunday at Biera—with 375ml and 750ml bottles at the Biera Market and pours at Biera (9570 76 Avenue, Ritchie Market). Click here for more.

tomato top100: four whistle farm eggs

I started by buying these eggs many many years ago after visiting the farm and experiencing the chickens living their lives, pecking and clucking about. For the longest time you could only get them at the Old Strathcona Farmers Market and they pretty much sold out by noon. Lucky for us, now you can find them at the Bountiful (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and Downtown Markets too (Saturday and Sunday) as there is nothing better than a fresh and flavourful local egg. Visit here.
