Hungary’s Zsirai at Rge Rd dinner, Bar Bricco’s uova da ravioli, Meuwly’s Lemon Cordial Best in Class, plus: Chef Daniel Costa’s Ricotta Pesto

chef daniel costa’s parsley and ricotta pesto with trofie

If your basil looks like mine does, completely finished after making pesto many times this summer, try this toothsome pesto with parsley. Can’t find trofie? Try making this dish with Rustichella d’Abruzzo’s casareccia pasta. Find at the Italian Centre Shops.

meuwly’s lemon cordial best in class

Congrats! Meuwly’s Lemon Cordial was voted Best in Class in the soda, non-alcoholic, mixers category at the Alberta Beverage Awards. The sweetly tart syrup, made with freshly-squeezed lemon juice and zest is a handy thing to have in the fridge. Use for lemonade, sparkling Italian soda, or as a base for a cocktail. Find online meuwlys.com/grocerystore, Color de Vino and other retail spots.

this is how we do wine dinners now: hungary’s zsirai at rge rd

Salivate Wine’s Christina Masciangelo started importing Zsirai wine from Hungary earlier this year. Christina is always on the lookout for wines with the all-important high quality/great value ratio. This Hungarian winery does not disappoint. Founded in 2005 by the late Csaba Zsirai and now run by daughters Petra and Kata, and Petra’s husband Máté Csanaky, the goal is top-notch quality from (almost) forgotten indigenous grapes grown in Hungary’s most significant regions. The wines are delicious—complex and bright and worth getting to know. Along with a menu by chef Blair Lebsack, there is a Zoom with Máté, live from Hungary. Choose the dine-in-option in the private room at the Butchery (five courses paired with seven $180+/p), or the take-away option (four courses with three wines, $195+/2 people, additional dinners, $50 each). The deadline to order is Friday, September 24. Visit here to book. For more info on the Zsirai wines click here.
