soup made with love from the pandemic farm fundraiser is held over!
Last year, Kitchen by Brad and the Pandemic Farm made a delicious harvest soup to raise $$$ for the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute VAD Program and Edmonton’s Food Bank. This year, the recipe may be a little different, but the need remains. How to support these two worthy causes? Buy this year’s edition, a hearty vegetable soup made entirely from herbs and veg grown on the Pandemic Farm, on Friday, October 15, from 11:30am–1pm at the Kitchen take-out window, (10130 105 Street, kitchenbybrad.ca) while quantities last. First come, first served. Buy it hot to slurp for lunch, or cold to enjoy later, $10/litre, cash only, or, donate a little extra. The U of Alberta Extension course A Tour of Italian Reds, offered online starts October 20 and runs subsequent Wednesdays until November 17. litfest starts october 14 in person and online
Opening night features Omar Mouallem. The launch of his new book Praying to the West is followed by a screening of The Last Baron in which Mouallem tells the story of the local chain and its connection to both his own family and many other mid-century Lebanese immigrants. Many of the events are both online and in person. The closing event is online only —Brunch of Writers-Celebrity Dish featuring Tom Vitale, author of In the Weeds, a memoir of his time working with Anthony Bourdain. Edmonton food writer Twyla Campbell is one of the moderators, along with LitFest executive director Fawnda Mithrush. If you love books, check it out!
