the circus is coming to town!

The inaugural Alberta Circus Arts Festival (ACAF) takes over the French Quarter at Campus Saint-Jean for four days, beginning June 24. Annie Dugan, the artistic director of Edmonton’s Firefly Circus Theatre, set about creating a Festival to create a national conversation. The new festival sees troupes from Montreal, Winnipeg and Calgary joining Firefly for the first time. “We have a circus dancer, arial theatre performers, experimental shows and fun things for kids and families too,” says Annie. “The Cinq a Cirque Circus Happy Hour at Café Bicyclette came from something we did during the pandemic—circus performers across the country would meet Friday at 5pm on Zoom for a drink.” Along with top performers, there are professional development workshops for artists and industry sector support for producers, presenters and instructors.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be bringing this first-of-its kind festival to Edmonton,” says Annie. “We are all hungry for the return live-entertainment, and our festival city is the perfect place to host the Alberta Circus Arts Festival.” Find the full program and buy tix here.
