Don’t you love a country that celebrates the first Christmas beer? That’s what the Danes do on November 3, the Danish holiday based on Tuborg’s release of Julbryg (Christmas beer). Three Vikings (10713 124 Street) makes this an Alberta thing, with Longroof Brewing’s second annual Julbryg. It will be tapped at Three Vikings at noon, served with a fun J-Day platter. (Longroof taps another keg at 3pm at the brewery on the same day). Skol!

Enjoy wine and beer pairings, formaggio-forward eats (mushroom arancini served with Asiago Fresco, flatbreads topped with fresh ricotta, mortadella and pistachios and fresh figs with crumbled Gorgonzola) interactive cheese stations and the cracking of a giant Asiago. The Napa Valley’s Truchard Vineyards occupies a special place in the heart and minds and cellars of wine lovers. Tony and Jo Ann Truchard built up a vineyard parcel of over 400 acres in the southern part of Napa, now known as Carneros. They were early proponents of the Carneros AVA, knowing how remarkable the area was, and, in 1989, started making estate wine. Their son, Anthony Truchard II, is the general manager and the featured guest at the dinner. Five courses by the superb RGE RD kitchen team, paired with five wines, 6:30pm, Wednesday, November 8.
