blindman golf tourney, central social hall summer menu, green & gold market open, plus recipe of the week: chef caputo’s risi e bisi

the green & gold market is open saturday

The Green & Gold Community Garden market (south campus, University Farm) is open this Saturday from 11:30am-12:30pm; plenty of time to pick up some kale, Swiss chard, rhubarb, green onions, haskaps (already!) and some beautiful lettuces—green and red oak leaf, Batavia, green and red butterleaf and a crisp green leaf lettuce called Muir. When it’s this fresh, lettuce keeps extremely well in the crisper drawer so you can plan for luscious salads all week. Tuesday night markets start July 8. First time visiting? Find the map at www.greengoldgarden.com.

new summer menu at central social hall

Casual dining doesn’t get much better than at Central Social Hall. And now, there is the new summer menu. Top of the list? The Double Standard burger—double smashed patties, double cheese, house-made bacon jam and the tasty comeback sauce on a cheesy brioche bun. Now, that’s a burger! The bonus? Each burger sold in July includes a donation to KidSport Edmonton as part of the YEG Burger Battle. Woo who!

tomato top100: the bothy’s mussels

Nominators love The Bothy’s mussels, even people who don’t like mussels. Have a wee dram from their outstanding whisky collection after.

recipe of the week: chef caputo’s risi e bisi

Fresh peas are at the farmers’ markets right now. It’s a short season; make this easy and delicious Venetian classic to take advantage of their tender sweetness. Don’t have guanciale? You could use prosciutto, mild pancetta, capocollo or even diced ham, or leave out completely.
