on enroute’s top10 best new restaurants: bündok
Congrats to chef Ryan Hotchkiss on his downtown resto, Bündok, hitting EnRoute’s Top10 New Restaurants list this year. Bündok was the sole Alberta restaurant to make the list, dominated by Montreal and Toronto. Four other smaller communities can boast winners too—Jordan, Ontario’s fab, and #1 on the list, Restaurant at Pearl Morrisette; 7 Avenue in Regina, Dale McKay’s latest in Saskatchewan and Picton, Ontario’s (summer’s best town) Sand and Pearl. cibo says happy anniversary with a week of tasting menus
Cibo Bistro (11244 104 Avenue, 780-757-2426) usually has a big winemaker dinner for their anniversary. This year (#7) they decided to do something a bit different and offer a specially-priced ($70/p) five-course tasting menu from Monday, November 6 to Saturday November 10. Add wine pairings for $30/p. We love this.
oeb lands sunny side up in downtown
The Calgary breakfast phenom OEB is now open in the redeveloped Kelley Ramsay building (10174 100A Street, 587-520-0936) near Rice Howard Way. Think potatoes in duck fat, blue plate specials, breakfast poutines and really great sandwiches.

wine of the week: what wine goes with halloween candy? champagne!
Check out Gremillet, a small family-owned Champagne house based in the Aube. Most of the vines are planted in the Côte des Bar, where Pinot Noir is favoured on the rolling hillsides of limestone and clay soil. The area is a hidden gem; land costs less and so do the high-quality bubbles being produced there. At $50ish a bottle, it’s possible to open a Gremillet Brut mid-week without remorse (comes in a half bottle too, yaay!).
tequila, beer and beats at the muttart
The Muttart is having a Day of the Dead celebration, Friday, November 2, 6pm-11:30pm. Bring a token of a loved one passed to the offering at the Traditional Altar. Take part in a tequila agave planting, enjoy the beats of a local DJ, a Mexican food pop up from Culina, 5pm-9pm (Mexican street corn, quesadillas, chile chocolate mousse cup) and drink specials including tequila and beer.
