Rania Burns’ wine brand Prairie Souls is one year old! The party is at Rig Hand Distillery (50158 Range Road 244A, Leduc), 6:30 pm, Thursday, June 19 with music by Rosina Cove, delicious food and of course wine. Rania started a wine brand to explore concepts close to her heart—art, prairie living and connecting people. The recent Alberta embargo on US wine has changed the situation somewhat. “It’s kind of a prohibition. So much of this project is Canadian—Alberta artists, labels made in BC. I’d love to partner with a Canadian winery but with the grape situation (due to the major frost) that’s just not possible right now. Our product is unique and different; it’s not Cellared in Canada, made from poor-quality generic tank wine. We work with a family of filth generation winemakers. We don’t grow grapes in Alberta, so let’s focus the conversation on what’s important—my intention has always been to connect people over the table. Wine is a delicious celebration of our way of life.” Rani was fortunate to receive a big shipment before the new policy started so we do have wine to enjoy. The event at Rig Hand is a great place to start and we look forward to more collaborations between these two fabulous local businesses. Tix: $85/p+.
