oh, what a night! at the johann strauss ball

Expect a lovely dinner and lots of amazing music at the Johann Strauss Ball—classical ballroom by the Edmonton Pops Orchestra; big band by C-Jam; live performances from the 2025 scholarship winners; a traditional polonaise performed by the Polonez Folk Art Ensemble; the world premiere of a Hungarian ballroom dance, and the musical highlight (and dancer’s favourite), the Quadrille from Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, at midnight. It’s an amazing event which raises money for the Johann Strauss Foundation, started by four expat Austrian couples at the kitchen table in 1975. Since then 190 scholarships have been provided. recipe of the week: cindy’s paska bread

The Ukrainian Easter tradition is to prepare a basket of specific foods on Saturday (including Easter bread) which are taken to church the next day and blessed, then taken home to be eaten. Cindy Lazarenko’s family recipe for the paska makes it easy.
