eat pyrohy and support alberta film
Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts (ACUA) host a Pyrohy Dinner, 6pm-9pm, Saturday, February 22 at the ACUA Gallery & Artisan Boutique (10554 110 Street). The event supports Oy Marichka! an upcoming film by Edmonton native Darcia Parada, and marks four years of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Special guests are tenor Boris Derow and bandurist Oksana Kolomiiec. Oy Marichka! (Oh Mary!), about romance, hockey and second chances, is a love story inspired by Parada’s roots. Tix: $30/p+, $15/p for the under 12s.

jola’s pop-up happening march 9
Jola’s, the Polish pop-up by chef Filliep Lament inspired by his grandmother’s cooking, is happening at Rosewood Foods (10150 100 Street) on Sunday, March 9. Doors open at 5pm until 10, or, until they sell out of dill pickle fried chicken and zurek kinkali.
goodbye richard toll
The food community mourns the loss of Richard Toll, father of six, lover of mead and all-round good guy. His company Celtic Kitchen prepared high-quality, unique Celtic foods found all over Alberta. He leaves behind his wife Angela, and children Collin, Jacob, Rory, Isla, Una, Iona. A Go Fund Me has been set up to help his family.
