Spilt Zero Proof (11909 Jasper Avenue, spilt.ca), Alberta’s first no alcohol bar, is now open. Think speakeasy vibe, but no bathtub gin here. Instead, find delicious hand-crafted mocktails by AF (alcohol free) maven Jo Ann Pierce, classes with a culinary (and flavourful) focus, a bottle shop plus a terrific community of fun-loving people. A picnic under the evening sky surrounded by the gorgeous UofA Botanic Gardens? Count me in. New this year are some deliciously themed menus, Canadiana until July 12, followed by Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and East Meets South Asian themes. so long nick lees, we will miss you
Nick Lees was an indefatigable prankster and fundraiser. The wine community, the running community, the charity circuit, everyone he met really, remember Nick with fond memories and funny stories. You always had fun if Nick was around, he made sure if it. There is a lovely obit in the Edmonton Journal and story by Nick’s colleague, Cam Tait. No word yet on when the memorial service will be held but it will need a very big room.
