winning chefs on global morning news

Tune in to Global Morning news Thursday November 3, at 7:40am to see Gold Medal Plates medalists Eric Hanson and Doreen Prei talk about the competition, why they compete and why they both chose seafood for their winning dishes. Bronze medalist Shane Chartrand will not be joining them — he’s hunting. Friday morning on Global I’ll be wearing my somm hat and chatting with Lorraine Mansbridge at Pampa, about what you can expect at the Rocky Mountain Food and Wine Show. I will attempt to answer that burning question; why are some wines $20 and others $2000? Think Ford Fiesta vs Bentley.

The 2016 Gold Medal Plates gold medal went to chef Eric Hanson (top centre); chef Doreen Prei (top left) took silver, and bronze went to chef Shane Chartrand (top right). Below from left: Olympians Erica Wiebe, Rosie MacLennan and Stephanie Labbe.

the making of a menu

Every year we do an entertaining menu for the holidays. They have ranged from full-on turkey and all the trimmings to a Cyprus Christmas and everything in between. This year we are making spuntini (the Italian version of a grazing) menu with Micah Joffe and Daniel Costa of Bar Bricco. To give you some behind the scenes action, I went along for the ride at the photo shoot by the talented Randee Armstrong. Find the full menu and Randee’s images in the holiday issue on stands this week.
