london calling at london local
We are excited about Lindsay Porter and Evonne Li’s new resto, London Local, opening October 20 at 2307 Ellwood Drive SW. Lindsay, a Gold Medal Plates bronze medalist and former chef at Mercer’s Catering, El Cortez and Woodwork, offers the tastes of her English upbringing in this new venture, a casual, stylish gastro pub. Expect modern, full-throttle flavours in her characteristic style with a well-chosen beer, wine and cider list. And, we hear there will be Sunday roast. Can’t wait! Sadly, Lindsay isn’t competing at GMP this year due to the resto opening.

island wine at bar bricco
Explore the wines of Tenuta Di Castellaro on October 25. These wines are made on Lipari, one of the Aeolian islands off the coast of Sicily. That, right there, sounds like a mini-vacay. Expect organic wines, simply made, from rare and traditional grape varieties, paired with Bar Bricco spuntini. Yum. With special guest Gabriele Colombo, sales and export manager, October 25, 7pm, $90, email info@barbricco.com to book.

season of mists, mellow fruitfulness and stew (with apologies to mr keats)
Shane Chartrand is one of the most interesting and collaborative chefs we have seen in a long time. He has trained in great spots, worked with award-winning chefs, appeared on Chopped Canada, is a compelling speaker, has a cookbook coming out next spring and is a Gold Medal Plate competing chef. His salute to fall, a sausage and parsley stew, is just the thing you’ll want to eat during this chilly week.
one more market for green & gold
Green & Gold, the farmers market on the University Farm, has one more market this Saturday, from 11am-1pm. Find tomatoes, leeks, kale, apples, parsley, potatoes, garlic, pumpkins, spinach, and other fresh veg and herbs. Cold weather? No problem, the market will be in the Old Barn across from the garden if it’s too cold for the outdoors. As well, find Mojo Jojo Pickle’s elderberry jelly, green tomato salsa and elberberry elixer. Here’s how to get there
