vasyl popadiuk benefit concert happening this monday!
Vasyl Popadiuk, the superb classically-trained violinist born in Kyiv, performs with the Papa Duke band in a benefit concert on Monday, May 16 at the Winspear Centre. The Western Canadian tour, which was cancelled earlier this year due to Covid, is endorsed by the Consulate General of Ukraine. Funds raised benefit two orphanages in Sumy, Ukraine. The 124 Street Grande Market (108 Avenue and 124 street) opens tomorrow night at 4pm. Woo hoo! There are three Grande Markets this year—beginning June 4, Saturdays at Manchester Square from 11am-3pm, and the Sunday Market at 102 Avenue and 124 Street, opening June 5. Find delicious local fresh and prepared food, beverages, breweries, cider, coffee, food trucks, as well as art, jewelry and such. Not every vendor at every market. chef david leeder is new exec at teatro
Edmonton chef David Leeder is now heading up the kitchen at Calgary’s Teatro. Checked in with him last week at the Chianti Classico Conzorzio tasting. Lunch was delicious, starting with a fragrant tomato soup redolent with fruity extra virgin olive oil and a toothsome mushroom risotto. Teatro is always a good bet, even more so now.
