bountiful market grand opening

Bountiful Farmers’ Market (3696 97 Street), the new European-style, indoor, multi-day farmers’ market is opening this Friday! Expect a cheerful celebration of local culture and food—chef demos, kids programming, cultural happenings, giveaways. There are around 110 vendors to start, including Ace Coffee, Arno’s, Blindman Brewing, Four Whistle Farms, The Happy Camel, Honest Dumplings, Irvings Farm Fresh, Little Bear Gelato, Meuwley’s, Riverbend Gardens and Strathcona Spirits. I’m looking forward to checking out the Mexican bakery called Pikante. Still hungry? There are seven commercial kitchens on site—Ukrainian, Loatian, Jamaican and Vietnamese—to eat there or takeaway. Plan to visit June 21-23, 9am-5pm, tons of parking.

recipe of the week: breakfast asparagus

Cooking asparagus in an almost dry cast iron skillet results in flavours akin to roasted. Delicious with eggs and toast, maybe some hash browns and grilled tomato. The original recipe was one by Edna Lewis, pioneering Southern chef. thetomato.ca
