la petite iza opens tonight

The eagerly awaited third floor at Eleanor et Laurent, an intimate bistro called La Petite Iza, opens tonight. The kitchen, helmed by chefs Shaun Hicks, Fillipe Lament and James Gauthier, is turning out delicious bistro classics—onion soup, mussels in a tarragon cream sauce, steak frites, duck confit, along with beautiful desserts by Ilynna Lam and pastry exec chef James Holehouse. The room is exquisite, with an Art Nouveau look and tables placed far apart, best to make a reso. Come for an aperitif, a glass of Champagne and some really delicious food, Wednesday-Sunday, 5pm-10pm for now. The entrance to La Petite Iza is around the back and up the stairs, 10926 88 Avenue, 780-988-0897, eleanorandlaurent.com.

the butchery opens november 18

The Butchery opens today! Rustic and modern, airy and welcoming, RGE RD’s sister business is looking good. “Think of it as a retail butcher shop,” says Blair Lebsack, exec chef and co-owner along with his partner Caitlin. “We work with a lot of great local suppliers—Jeff Nonay, Nature’s Green Acres, Adrian Hykaway of Tandria Dexter, Red Tail Farm. Four Whistle Farm will supply the turkeys and ducks, all the fowl. We’ll have roasts, ground meats and weekday steak (not necessarily rib eyes only), turkeys, duck, ground pork. And we age our meat.” It’s not just a butcher shop. There will be RGE RD’s loaves direct from the wood oven, pâtés and terrines, frozen meat pies and empanadas and local gourmet dry goods. “We started in 2013 with 1700 square feet. Now we’re over 8000 square feet,” says Caitlin. “We’re invested.” Visit The Butchery, next door to RGE RD, 10643 123 Street, closed Sunday and Monday.
