new book by the cookie maven, julie van rosendaal
Cookies I Have Loved is a compilation of Julie Van Rosendaal’s best cookies. It’s her 12th cook book and this time, she’s doing something different. The book is only available from local indie books stores (Audrey’s and Knifewear in Edmonton) or from dinnerwithjulie.com. Julie is bypassing large retailers like Amazon and using the money saved to donate $1/book to local food community initiatives. The other reason? She hopes to encourage all of us to go to our local bookstores more often. If your copy of One Smart Cookie (her first book) is as bedraggled and flour-dusted as mine, you’ll want this book.

Or, two fun wines from the Zisola estate in Sicily—Noto Rosso (Nero d’Avola) and Azisa (Grillo and Catarratto). The estate is owned by Tuscan producer Mazzei and the wines are fresh and delicious. And, Vivanterre Gamay MBV. Startlingly delicious, vibrant and harmonious, from mostly Moulin a Vent and Brouilly plantings, aged in clay and amphora. This absolutely low intervention wine is imported by Garneau Block, an agency devoted to pure wines. For your coffee, Poli Ciok. We had the Ciok for dessert at Uccellino a few weeks ago—super fresh tasting, super creamy, really delicious. Move over Bailey’s…
