bring on the bella
Some of our favourite wine dudes are in town for tastings and dinners. Join Jay Drysdale from Bella and Matt Sherlock from Nichol and Lock & Worth at Color de Vino (9606 82 Avenue, 780-439-9069, colordevino.ca) Friday May 4 3:30-6pm for an informal (and no cost) tasting. Check it out!
looking forward to sc
Just had a sneak peek at the menu at SC, chef Shane Chartrand’s new restaurant at the River Cree Resort. We love it. It’s the right proportion of simple and good with a new smoker program, cast iron-cooked salmon and bannock flat breads in the mix. Think straightforward cooking with a focus on delish flavours. The look is modern rustic, with staff in Cam Dobranski’s Medium Rare Chef Apparel, which is local (well, Calgary) and fun — think mechanic’s shirts on the cooks. Opens mid-June, can’t wait.
drink tuscan monday night
Here is a chance to taste some great Italian wines at Hicks Fine Wines (109-150 Bellerose Drive, St. Albert, 780-569-5000, http://hicksfinewines.com) at the Avignonesi tasting with special guest Giuseppe Santarelli, Monday, May 7, 7pm, $30/p, call or visit web site to book.
endive anchovy and parsley salad
Sick of root veg but the local asparagus, radishes and ramps are not quite out yet? This is the worst season for fresh and local. Console yourself with this fresh and tangy endive and anchovy salad from chef Daniel Costa. Its direct flavours taste like spring.
