The legions of fans of La Boule Bakery were sad to see this sign on the door. The Old Strathcona bakery, home to exquisite viennoiserie and patisserie, baguettes and boules and probably the best gluten-free pastry in the city, the chocolate mousse gateau, is closing its doors August 22. “This was my baby, I grew it from the ground up,” says owner/head baker chef Jennifer Stang.
“We were immensely successful and we have an amazing customer base, so supportive. But the landlord wanted too much.
“The hardest thing was telling my staff. We have an amazing talented group of people. I’ll do everything in my power to help them.” Jennifer does plan to reopen in their own building, but nothing is firm yet. Expect lineups and sell-outs in these last few weeks. The last day to make a pre-order is Sunday, August 15.
“We’re doing our best, she says. “We want to give everyone a last lovely experience. All these beautiful people who have supported us—I am grateful.”
