One of our favourite resto people, Scott Downey is one of Edify Magazine’s Top 40 under 40. Scott and his wife Jillian own and operate the Butternut Tree (2017) and they purchased iconic bistro, The Marc, from Patrick and Doris Saurette in 2024. Trained as a chef, Scott’s philosophy is a long term one. “I never wanted it to be a restaurant that blew up, was successful for a couple years and then died off,” he says. “I wanted it to be something that was a part of the city, a part of the community, and that was here for a long time. I think that’s why we’re still here today.” Congratulations to Scott and Jillian!
