Welcome to the September/October Tomato food & drink.

1996-2021

25 years? Is that even possible. Our first issue was September/October 1996. We were a wee thing, a slim black and white volume filled with what was happening in food in Edmonton. Now, you can find The Tomato at over 250 places around town and online everywhere.

Visit us on Instagram @tomatofooddrink and sign up for the Bite newsletter to stay informed every week.

We will continue to do what you, dear reader, have come to expect—the openings, the closings, the chefs, the farmers, the merchants—everyone and everything that creates a vibrant food and drink culture. Check out the new website. Discover up-to-the-minute content, terrific recipes from our stellar food community, plus great stories from 25 years of talking about food and food people.

We’ve been wrestling with the 25th anniversary cover for months. We think we nailed it—we selected cover images of many of the individuals who make our food scene deliciously vibrant. Click on each individual cover to read the story.

Because, writing about food is ultimately, and fundamentally, writing about people. After all, everybody eats.

Thank you for reading the Tomato. If it wasn’t for you there wouldn’t be a Tomato. Always let us know what you like, what you didn’t like and what we could do better.
