Fanta Camara of the Edmonton-based tea company Vitaliteas has created a partnership with two other inspiring local women in food—cookie maven Kathy Lescow (Confetti Sweets) and top chef Doreen Prie (May). “I wanted to make something new,” says Fanta. “Something beyond tea. I didn’t want to be alone in my next business either, but wanted the same emphasis on quality and health. Fanta had long used chicory in the Vitaliteas chai mix; ‘it’s high fibre and a prebiotic,” she says. “I have known baobab all my life, it’s the African tree of life—rich in vitamin C, a prebiotic and it’s unique, the fruit powders naturally. But I couldn’t find a trusted source for the powder until recently.” Now, they have created a new business called Chico-Bab which puts the two superfoods together.
